Banthi, directed by S.S. Rajamouli with leading comedian Sunil as the hero, is once again back on the tracks. The film was earlier announced with much fanfare, but for some unexplained reason, the project did not take off.
Rajamouli is now producing the film under his home banner, Viswamithra Creations. He has selected Vara Mullapudi to direct the film. Vara's first two films as director – Naa Alludu starring Junior NTR and Visakha Express starring Allari Naresh and Rajiv Kanakala – were utter flops. But that has not deterred Rajamouli from putting his faith in his favourite protégé. Trivikram Srinivas has scripted the film for old friend Sunil.
Intiallly, Surendar Reddy was to have directed Banthi, but he backed out as he was not keen on the comedy genre. The movie will now start regular shooting in 2009, say sources.
