Raksha, the Telugu version of Phoonk, will hit screens on September 12th. Meanwhile, Ram Gopal Varma’s brainchild Phoonk (Hindi) was released in India last Friday.
Ram Gopal Varma is not directing but only presenting Raksha. Vamsi Krishna Akella, a young talented director is directing the Telugu version starring Jagapathi Babu, Kalyani, Jayasudha and Rajiv Kanakala. Sudeep, the hot Kannada star, has essayed Jagapathi’s role in the Hindi version.
Bapi Tutul has scored the music and Surjodeep Ghosh has handled the camera. Chandra Sekhar, Vijaya Laxmi and Suryavathi will produce the film under One More Thought Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. banner.
Though the usual practice is to release Hindi movies the world over on the same day, Phoonk was released only in India. The reason? Phoonk, a concept-driven film doesn’t have any well-known faces, with most of the cast being either regional stars or newbies.
The makers have decided to dub the movie in various languages (English, Spanish, German and French) and release these versions overseas. At the moment, the English dubbing is in progress in Mumbai.
Raksha will be dubbed in Tamil and Malayalam later on. Raksha should truly be a money spinner!
