While he was in Hyderabad, Superstar Rajinikanth took the opportunity to watch a special screening of Kathanayakudu at Prasad Studio’s preview theatre, a day before the movie’s worldwide release.
As usual, the reticent superstar met the press before the exclusive screening, where he said Kathanayakudu’s story is similar to his own as it emphasizes the importance of friendship.
He was also quoted at the same press meet as saying, “Of course… Of course… you see the picture first and then I'll tell you. Watch Kathanayakudu and you will feel this is not a Rajinikanth movie. Yes, it is not a like one of my regular movies, but one that is so much closer to me. You'll definitely enjoy this picture. A good social message is there.”
Many observed that Rajni might have cried towards the end and asked him whether he actually did, to which he replied, “In the film… yes…”
Reassuring the gathered presspersons about the recent controversy of Karnataka not allowing his movie to be screened in the state, the superstar said he had cleared the matter with the concerned people and that the movie would be released without any trouble.
Jagapathy Babu, who is the long-lost friend of Rajni in Kathanayakudu, said that he learnt the lesson of humbleness from the great superstar’s everyday attitude. He said, “The superstar slaps me towards the end of the film. I prized it.”
