Ram Gopal Varma (RGV), the Indian one-man army for the horror genre, is coming out with his latest flick on black magic. Though he impressed Tollywood filmmakers with movies like Shiva, Kshanam Kshanam and Anaganga Oka Roju almost two decades ago, he moved to Bollywood where he’s gained a reputation for churning out quality productions.
He was recently in Hyderabad to promote Raksha presented by him. (He had directed the Hindi version, Phoonk). RGV spoke about his views and experiences about movie making, which the civil-engineer-by-profession learnt on the job.
In the press meet he revealed that director Vamsi Krishna Akella, who directed Raksha had originally come to him as a writer. Both RGV and Vamsi had worked on Phoonk’s story and came up with two different screenplays. RGV’s screenplay became Phoonk and Vamsi’s has taken shape as Raksha. The directorial genius confessed that he felt that Vamsi’s screenplay was better than his!
Raksha, starring Jagapathi Babu, Kalyani, Baby Neha and Jayasudha, centres around an atheist whose world is turned upside down when his beloved daughter starts to behave strangely and the doctors can’t provide an explanation.
The film is slated for release on September 19, 2008. Later, it will be dubbed in Tamil and Malayalam.
