The Second International Film Festival of Hyderabad was launched at Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam on January 3. Young heroine Priyamani and senior director and Union minister Dasari Narayana Rao formally lighted the lamp marking the inauguration of the festival.
Speaking on the occasion Dasari saif, 'Once the directors and writers used to show huge interest in international film festivals. Soon after its restriction to Goa, there was a huge difference and very few people started evincing interest. The government should ensure that the International Film Festivals are held in Delhi, Hyderabad and other such places. In fact, such festivals would help others to learn about the cultures of different regions.'
Programme director Prakash Reddy said, 'This time, over 34 countries are participating in the week-long festival. We are planning to screen 150 films during these days. Awards would be given in documentary section.'
MS Reddy, Dr D Ramanaidu, Sagar, Thammareddy Bharadwaja, KNT Sastry, Tripuraneni Prasad, EVV Satyanarayana, besides Yang Bing Yang, an film artiste from China and others participated in the inaugural event. 'Teeth of Love' was screened as the inaugural movie.
