The trouble over Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi's newly-launched party's name 'Praja Rajyam' was resolved on Friday after Chenna Krishnaiah Reddy, an advocate of Cuddapah district in Andhra Pradesh, who has filed an application to register his party in the same name, agreed to withdraw his application.
Chenna Krishnaiah met the Election Commission officials in New Delhi and agreed to withdraw the application he filed a month ago. Chiranjeevi's aides could finally succeed in convincing Krishnaiah to withdraw his application and in return, promised him a key post in the party, sources said.
Krishnaiah applied for registration of the name 'Praja Rajyam' in July and was given a month's time by the Election Commission to complete the formalities. A day before Chiranjeevi's meeting at Tirupati, Krishnaiah announced that he has registered his party by the same name with the Election Commission in New Delhi on June 14. After his claim, Chiranjeevi's fans mounted pressure on him to withdraw his application to ensure a smooth political debut for the actor.
Chiranjeevi's aide Vinay Kumar and two other leaders of Chiranjeevi's party from Cuddapah district met Krishaniah in Delhi and they jointly called on Election Commission officials. It was during this meeting that Krishnaiah agreed to withdraw his application.
