Mobile phones have moved from being tools of communication to hi tech gizmos that are a menace to society, what with hidden 3G cameras and video recorders which can be used covertly in public. There are many cases where these ‘camera’ mobiles are used to infringe on the privacy of women even in public places, by taking pictures/ videos of persons without their being aware that they are being photographed. These images are then circulated by morphing them on existing titillating images or by enhancing the image digitally to make it appear as if the persons are deliberately posing in a teasing manner.
A similar case happened with Telugu star Charmee. Now she is now running scared of anyone who happens to point a mobile in her direction, even if it’s not a camera phone. The reason for this phobia of mobiles? Her image was captured during one of her public appearances and pasted onto a ‘masala’ video, which made it look as if it was Charmee in the sleazy clip; this clip was then circulated on the gray market. When Charmee came to know of it, she was extremely upset about the issue; recently, she even caught hold of a culprit who was taking photos of her at a shopping mall.
It is one thing to dress a part on screen but it is quite another to hound women and use their images when they are unaware and without taking their permission. Some young women go to the extent of ending their lives when such sleazy venture degrade them. Society ends up blaming them for not being more cautious, instead of bringing the culprits to book!
