Silence, sometimes defined as the language of the soul is the most sublime and ultimate form of human expression. It can transcend the limitations of the mind, thought, voice and the heart. We have seen it in the Prithviraj starrer Mozhi which had some touching scenes. When a deaf and dumb girl was asked the question, “What does music mean to you?” we, the audience too, can not answer this question! After Khamoshi and Black (both in Hindi), Mozhi brought forth an interesting theme and made us think about the language of silence.
Very few filmmakers today have attempted to exploit this power of silence. Silent movies were perforce made in the beginning of the twentieth century. (Of course, there are exceptions like Mel Brook's Silent Movie in the 1970s and the Kamal Haasan starrer Pushpak).
Now, some filmmakers have come forward to make a silent movie of the type made in the beginning of the twentieth century. Telugu actor Brahmanandam will star in this yet-to-be-titled silent movie, directed by Arun Kumar. Producer Sonia Reddy announced that shooting will begin soon.
We wish all the best to the filmmakers who have ventured to make a unique film, differing from today's noisy offerings.
