Yet another sentimental family drama from Krishnavamsi
Director Krishnavamsi is known as a creative director. His films like Sindhuram and Khadgam prove his guts in presenting different subjects on the screen, Ninne Pelladatha and Murari reveal his expertise in presenting family subjects. Krishnavamsi could effectively present human relations and family relations in a very natural way on celluloid. However, the sharpness of this creative director slipped and his popularity dipped in the recent past. His films like Sri Anjaneyam, Danger, Chakram and Raakhi failed to make a mark at the box office. With this background, Krishnavamsi has worked hard to give a big hit this time and has chosen yet another family subject for his forthcoming flick, a film with a low profile and lesser-known stars, hoping to surprise the audience and critics.
Produced by C. Kalyan under the banner of Teja Productions, the film was titled Mallepuvvu at the time of the launch of shooting and later changed to Chandamama. Navadeep and Sivabalaji are the heroes; Kajal Aggarwal of Lakshmi Kalyanam and Sindhu Menon are the heroines. It is said to be a typical yet different love subject. While one pair has an urban background, the other one is from a village.
The film is reportedly a delicate sentimental drama. S.V. Ranga Rao (Nagababu) treats his daughter as his life and loves her more than anything in life. That daughter could not reveal about her love to his father, as she felt that it might hurt him. This drama was moulded on the celluloid carefully. Nagababu plays the father's role, an elderly, gentle and good person who loves his daughter very much. The other side of the coin is another father (Ahuti Prasad) who also loves and pampers his daughter too much. At the same time, he gives her freedom and leaves the choice of selecting her husband to her. Whether the girls are able to win the love of their lovers and join them with the acceptance of their elders is the crux of the plot. Whether the family relations between the families go into rough weather or have a smooth ending? The answers to all these questions form part of the climax.
A major part of the film was shot at Jayabheri House. The film has a rural backdrop with the historical background of Hampi. While Kajal is playing opposite Navadeep, Sindhu Menon is pairing with Sivabalaji. Like the change in the film title from Mallepuvvu to Chandamama, the heroines were also changed at a later date. In fact, Mumbai girls Andhraiti and Madhushalini were roped in as heroines first, but after shooting some part of the film, Krishnavamsi changed his mind and replaced them with Kajal and Sindhu. The film is reportedly being made as a total commercial and youthful entertainer.
Producer Kalyan says, 'Chandamama is an extraordinary art piece painted by Krishnavamsi on celluloid. I am confident that the film would attract all classes of audiences. The film would be in complete Krishnavamsi style. I am confident that Chandamama would earn a good name for me as a producer and also earn good recognition to all the artistes and technicians.'
Suddala Ashok Teja, Ananta Sriram, Peddada Murthy, Vanamali and Lakshmi Bhupal penned the songs for the film, while Radhakrishnan, who scored music for Anand and Godavari gave melodious tunes to all the songs in the movie. Prasad Murella worked in complete sync with the mindset of Krishnavamsi and portrayed the feelings, relations and the beautiful landscapes on the celluloid with excellent cinematography.
